The Shaping a Globalized World project sought to develop ideas and suggestions for the political management of globalization and to incorporate those ideas and suggestions into an international debate. Its purpose was to think more deeply about the political agenda of a globalized world, about strategies for action and modes of governance. To that end, the project attempted to examine global governance issues by gathering the knowledge, experience and viewpoints of individuals, governments and nonstate actors from various centers of the globalized world.

Shaping a Globalized World was a project coordinated by an international team based in Gütersloh, Germany and Washington, DC. The Bertelsmann Foundation concluded its work with the Shaping a Globalized World project in 2012.
