Today, the Transatlantic Policy Lab (the Lab) is pleased to launch “Advancing Equity for Athens’ Resilience,” containing recommendations to improve trust, employment, and public space in the Municipality of Athens, Greece. The report is the culmination of a yearlong effort by the Bertelsmann Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Municipality of Athens, 100 Resilient Cities, and fifteen lab participants drawn from across Europe and the United States.

The report’s placed-based recommendations are the result of an intensive weeklong lab held in partnership with a diverse array of municipal officials and local stakeholders from June 26 – 30, 2016. The goal of the Lab was to develop a robust understanding of Athens’ resilience and equity challenges in order to make informed, implementable recommendations.

Many of the Lab’s recommendations have been incorporated in to the Municipality’s Resilience Strategy, which will serve as a blueprint for resilience through 2030. Focusing on the 3rd and 6th districts (Avdi and Victoria squares), Advancing Equity for Athens’ Resilience offers suggestions of policies, programs and best practices.

Following the release of the Lab’s report, we invite you to join the conversation on Twitter using the #TAPolicyLab hashtag. Over the next several weeks, the Lab’s approach and recommendations will be discussed at the 100 Resilient Cities Global Summit, which will be held in New York City from July 23 – 28.
